Kamala Harris’ Turkey Recipe Resurfaced And It’s Going Viral

“Yes, I’m here. I’m going to talk about a recipe while you’re checking, is that okay?”

In a video taken a year ago, Vice President-elect Kamala Harris breaks down how to prepare a turkey, including tips for wet and dry brines.

The video resurfaced on social media and in it you can hear Harris describing her go-to recipe for turkey while preparing to go on the PoliticsNations show.

During the soundcheck she was speaking with Jonathan Capehart, a journalist with the Washington Post, whose husband, Nick, had sent a few questions about cooking a turkey.

Harris broke down how to get a good wet brine on a turkey, suggesting “a pot of water, couple bay leaves, a little sugar, a little cup of peppercorns, you could even do a slice of orange–– something like that.”

As she’s explaining the recipe, she’s interrupted by a question in her earpiece, and tells Capehart, “She’ll tell me if I’m annoying her.”

She continues explaining the recipe, saying, “So Nick, a dry brine is easier. And brine for 24 [hours] –– but 48 hours is best, if you have the time.”

Capehart tweeted the video of Harris explaining the recipe, part of the caption reading, “I recorded her response ‘cause I don’t cook and she was speaking a foreign language.”

The video also resurfaced on TikTok by user "feministmama" who demonstrated the recipe, saying it was “the best turkey I’ve ever made.”

With Thanksgiving less than 24 hours away, you might want to get started on that brining process, according to the next Vice President’s tried and true method.

It may be a good year to practice, too, as health officials warn against large gatherings for the holidays. If you have a mishap or didn’t get to start brining in time, no one will know over Zoom.
