Amazon has already offered to help out with President Joe Biden’s coronavirus vaccine distribution plan.
Just hours after Biden was sworn in as the nation’s 46th President of the US, Amazon’s CEO of Consumer Business, Dave Clark sent him a letter extending help to get the coronavirus vaccine to millions of Americans.
“We are prepared to move quickly once vaccines are available,” Clark wrote in the letter, first obtained by NBC News. Clark hopes his extension of help will get the ball rolling on getting vaccines to people, and help out with Biden’s ambitious plan to get 100 million Americans vaccinated within his first 100 days in office.
Days before Biden was inaugurated, the nation crossed a grim milestone of 400,000 COVID-19-related deaths since the virus was first recognized last year.
In his letter, Clark laid out the specific ways Amazon could help out:
“We are prepared to leverage our operations, IT, and communications capabilities and expertise to assist your administration’s vaccination efforts. Our scale allows us to make a meaningful impact in the fight against COVID-19, and we stand ready to assist you in this effort.”
Amazon currently has agreements with licensed healthcare providers to distribute the vaccine at their facilities.
In his request, Clark also urged employees of Amazon and its numerous partners like Whole Foods “who cannot work from home” be able to get access to the vaccine “at the earliest appropriate time.”
Black people and other people of color make the majority of frontline workers. The virus has also ravaged our communities and disproportionately impacted us economically.
