A Michigan man facing first-degree murder charges in the death of his ex-girlfriend reportedly made disturbing Google searches days before and after her disappearance.
According to PEOPLE, 32-year-old DeAndre Booker was charged with first-degree murder, tampering with evidence, disinterment and mutilation, and concealing the death of his ex-girlfriend, Ashley Elkins, a 30-year-old hairstylist and mother of two.
Elkins initially went missing on January 2 after leaving her home in Warren, Michigan to run errands. Her body hasn't been found.
During a court hearing on Friday (August 8), Detective Chris Moran of the Roseville Police Department testified that Booker’s phone contained troubling Google searches around the time of Elkins’ disappearance.
Among the search terms were “Telling God I want to kill someone,” “9mm silencer Roseville,” “Shoot gun through pillow,” “Can you track location when phone is off," and “What happened to trash after its picked up."
“Based on the information we had on what could’ve happened at the time, these appeared the most relevant," Moran said of the Google searches.
Moran also told the court that investigators discovered blood in a dumpster near Booker's apartment.
“If he had placed the victim in the dumpster, he would definitely be very concerned as to where the trash would go with the body,” Moran said.
Booker has pleaded not guilty to the charges. His defense attorney, Robbie Lang, said in a statement: “I don't have any real comment on what people search or don't search... I don't know where that quantifies as guilt for anything.”
Booker’s trial is set to resume on Friday (August 15).
