Two people are injured and a gunman is dead after a shooting inside Constant Hall at Old Dominion University Thursday morning at 10:50.
The victims, identified as 18-year-old Delanio Vick and 20-year-old Timothy Williams, were not affiliated with the university. They were transported to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital with life-threatening injuries and were later pronounced dead. According to the Norfolk Police Department, the suspect was neutralized during the incident, and there is no ongoing threat to the campus community.
ODU Police Chief Garrett Shelton assured the community of their safety, stating that the dining hall had closed minutes before the shooting and there were no other university activities in the area at that time. Despite this, fear and anxiety linger among students and staff. ODU President Brian Hemphill emphasized the importance of relying on official information and offered condolences to the families of the victims.
The university has canceled classes and operations on the main campus for the remainder of the day, urging individuals to avoid the area around Constant Hall. Walk-in counseling services are available for students, and the Office of Counseling Services can be reached at 757-683-4401.
Norfolk Police Chief Mark Talbot expressed his condolences and highlighted the strong partnership with ODU Police in investigating this double homicide. The investigation remains active, with no arrests made at this time. The ODU community is encouraged to support one another during this difficult time.
