Kansas City Chiefs defensive star Chris Jones sought to shake President Donald Trump's hand before the team's Super Bowl loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.
On Sunday (February 9), Jones and Trump shared a handshake prior to kickoff at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans.
Video shows Jones approached the president after he and his security detail arrived on the field. Trump initially didn't notice the defensive star as he riled up the crowd, throwing his fist in the air. However, the president doubled back after spotting Jones waiting for a moment to approach him.
The two reportedly shared a brief exchange and shook hands before the Philadelphia Eagle's dominant 40-22 win against the Chiefs.
Prior to the game, Trump, who was the first sitting president to attend the Super Bowl, had predicted a Chiefs victory and praised the franchise quarterback Patrick Mahomes. He also applauded Mahomes' wife, Brittany, who's been a vocal Trump supporter.
"I've watched this great quarterback – who has, by the way, a phenomenal wife, okay, she's a Trump fan," the president previously said. "She's a MAGA fan, so I happen to love her."
"She's a great person. I watched her being interviewed... she's great and he's great."
During the Super Bowl, Jones suffered an apparent knee injury in the third quarter. The defensive player struggled to jog off the field but later came back to the game as the Chiefs attempted to rally back in the game against the Eagles.
